This book offers snapshots, on many different topics, of what life was like in China during the first four decades of Communist rule. The author, a diplomat with a background in Chinese studies and a keen interest in Chinese society, reaches his purpose sharing with the reader many newspapers’ clips he collected while he was posted in the People’s Republic. RSEA student Edward Zhi En Tan named Schwarzman Scholar

RSEA student Edward Zhi En Tan has been awarded a prestigious Schwarzman scholarship, which funds a master’s in global affairs at Beijing’s Tsinghua University. Edward will join the Schwarzman Scholars Class of 2024. Congratulations, Edward!

While pursuing his AM in Regional Studies - East Asia, Edward is focusing on China’s norm entrepreneurship in international organizations. Major Robert B. Sheeks

It is with sadness that we inform the RSEA community of the passing of Major Robert Sheeks (AB’46, AM ‘48) at the age of 100 on July 4th, 2022.

As a member of the greatest generation, Maj. Sheeks disrupted his undergraduate studies to enter World War II in the US Marine Corps. He returned to Cambridge after the war to complete his Harvard College degree, after which Maj. Sheeks joined the newly formed China Regional Studies Program and was one of the first to graduate from what would become RSEA....

Congratulations to our March graduate Hannah Sng Baek!

Congratulations to Hannah Sng Baek for receiving her AM degree in Regional Studies--East Asia from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University! 

Hannah's focus in RSEA has been on South Korean film and film culture of the 1970s and 1980s and her AM thesis is titled "Queer Visions of a Dark Age: Rethinking Gender in and  through the Cinema of Yusin (1972-1979)"
