Planning is underway for this year's RSEA Alumni Panel to be held at Harvard in late October. The anual event is an opportunity for current students and alumni to share career-related experiences and ideas. RSEA Alumni please watch for an email from GSAS with your invitation to attend the event.

Welcome RSEA Students!

RSEA held its Orientation day on August 28 to welcome 25 new students to the program. Members of the incoming 2019 cohort enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other before beginning their Fall semester classes. We welcome another 21 RSEA students back to their second year of the program. RSEA students pursue a diverse array of fields and interests in East Asian studies during their time at Harvard. Carroll Bogert (RSEA AM'86) awarded Harvard GSAS Centennial Medal

At a GSAS ceremony on May 29, RSEA Alumna Carroll Bogert (AM '86) was presented with a Centennial Medal in recognition of her courageous work in journalism and advocacy for human rights.

The Centennial Medal is the highest award bestowed by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Established in 1989 on the occasion of the school's 100th anniversary, the Centennial Medal honors distinguished alumni who have made lasting contributions to society that emerged from their graduate study at Harvard.

Graduating RSEA student Da In Choi selected as Commencement Marshal

Da In Choi, RSEA Class of 2019, has been chosen by a committee of fellow graduate students to be a Commencement Marshal on May 30. 

Each year, eight graduating students from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) are selected to represent the graduating class as Commencement Marshals. On the morning of Commencement, these students help the GSAS deans organize the procession from the GSAS Breakfast to Harvard Yard. Published play translation by Junjie Jiang, RSEA '18

Congratulations to RSEA alum Junjie Jiang (AM'18) on the publication of her English translation of the contemporary Chinese drama Toilet in the peer-reviewed journal The Mercurian: A Theatrical Translation Review, April 2019. 

Toilet: A Play in Three Acts (2004) is the first play in the contemporary Chinese playwright Guo Shixing’s (1952– ) “Dignity Trilogy,” followed by Crematory (2007) and Homecoming (2011). Jiang's is the first translation of this play into English.
