Poetry Reading with Prof. David McCann
Prof. David McCann, the Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Literature, Emeritus, received his B.A. from Amherst College, and taught English for two years in Korea in the Peace Corps. After leaving Korea, he came to Harvard where he received an AM in the Regional Studies East Asia Program in 1971 and Ph.D. from EALC in 1976. He has published thirty-one books: anthologies, studies on Korean literary culture, translations of the poets Sowol, Pak Chaesam, Kim Chi Ha, Ko Un, Kim Namjo, and So Chongju, as well as ten collections of his own poetry. His work in the field of Korean literature has been recognized by the Manhae Prize in 2004, and the Korean Culture Order of Merit in 2006. Prof. McCann has retired from Harvard at the end of academic year 2013-14, but continues writing poetry and participating in poetry events.
